Winter Solstice
The “shortest” day of the year is nearly here! At our house, Peter really celebrates the winter solstice - when we have the least amount of sunlight - because it means we’ll be gradually getting more sun after this!
Our first day of winter falls on December 21 this year. It’s the perfect time to cozy up with those you love and celebrate the darkness of winter and also the return of the light. Each year, we eat dinner by candlelight and read our favorite winter books. I’m hoping to add this winter solstice soup and some sun-shaped biscuits to our little family festival.
A fun book to try this time of year is The First Day of Winter by Denise Fleming. It’s a fun read/sing-along adapted from “The First Day of Christmas” but following kids as they use natural materials to make a fun snowman! Now we just need some snow here in SE Wisconsin!
