Reuse Glass Jars

Did you know that you likely buy storage containers at the grocery store every time you go? Take a look at the packaging that your food comes in. Could it be repurposed for future use?

Plastic containers are tricky - they’re harder to clean and can leach chemicals - but they do provide harder-to-break containment.

Consider looking for glass containers when you purchase grocery items. Glass can be reused indefinitely without compromising quality or safety. It’s easy to see what’s inside and they’re easy to throw in the dishwasher to clean. Plus, they come with their own easy to open cover!

Hate those sticky labels? Soak in hot water before attempting to peel. Still stuck? Try a mixture of vegetable oil and baking soda to scrub the residue off.

Hoping to reuse that salsa jar but it still has a spicy smell? Wash with hot, soapy water and then wash one more time with either vinegar or hydrogen peroxide. Same goes for the lid!

What can you use your new storage containers for? Be creative: dry goods in the pantry, leftovers in the fridge, lunch containers for when we can return to work and need to bring a lunch, homemade salad dressing, a small container for a gift of food for a friend.

Don’t want to put food in it? Use it as a storage container for buttons or thread, screws and nails, hair ties and lip balms. They’re also easily decorated with a little creativity.

And if they chip or break? They’re recyclable, so they’ll hopefully be able to find another new life again.
