Socks and Sweatshirts
Raise your hand if your kids come out for breakfast in the morning and ask, “Can you turn the heat up?” I swear, it’s at least 4/7 days at our house.
True, we probably keep our house a little cooler than most people in Wisconsin. We sit at 68 degrees during the day at 62 degrees at night. (Energy conservation educator in me…)
But I’m also not giving in to my daughters’ pleas for a few extra degrees warmth for the 60 minutes that they are home before leaving for school! There are other solutions.
If you’re looking to save money on your energy bill, or if you’re looking to lessen the amount of natural gas or heating fuel that you consume in a day/week/month/season, put on an extra layer or two!
I’m sure my kids would be able to tell you my response:
Go put on some socks! Go put on a sweatshirt!
They grumble and grouse, but once they’re properly attired, there’s no more complaining…
Extra layers help keep our core and extremities warm - not a lot more explanation needed. When you’re warmer, you can tolerate a few degrees cooler around you.
Imagine the savings every winter if everyone did this!
