Fall Moon Walk

Cool fall nights are a great time to step outside and go for a walk before bed. No mosquitoes, no snow and the smells of autumn all around. Tonight, we have October’s full moon, which is another great reason to go for a walk.

We have full moons because the moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the setting sun. Full moons rise as the sun is setting, and (if you are up early in the morning) moonset happens as the sun is rising.

Take time this fall to go on a moon walk, no matter if it is daytime or nighttime - where can you see the moon peeking out at you?

Pair this activity with the book “City Moon” by Rachael Cole to rediscover the wonder of a child as he and his mother keep an eye on the moon during their evening stroll.
